Abagail Stanfield, M.S.

Licensed Psychological Associate

Hi, I’m Abagail Stanfield, a Therapist and Licensed Psychological Associate at Sugar Land Psychological Associates. I work with individuals experiencing unipolar and bipolar depression, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and related emotional difficulties. I also assist with comprehensive psychological assessments for diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.

Depression can affect far more than mood. It may influence motivation, sleep, concentration, relationships, self-esteem, and a person’s ability to manage everyday responsibilities. I work with individuals experiencing depressive symptoms associated with both unipolar depression and bipolar disorder, helping them better understand their symptoms, recognize patterns, strengthen coping skills, and work toward greater stability.

Trauma and PTSD are also central areas of my work. Difficult experiences can continue affecting the nervous system, relationships, emotions, and sense of safety long after the immediate danger has passed. Clients may experience intrusive memories, avoidance, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, irritability, sleep disruption, or difficulty trusting others. I approach trauma work carefully and collaboratively, respecting each client’s pace while helping them develop emotional regulation, safety, and more effective ways of coping.

My clinical background includes extensive experience in crisis intervention and suicide prevention. As a Crisis Supervisor and Qualified Mental Health Professional, I have conducted emergency mental health assessments in hospitals and correctional settings while supporting behavioral health programs serving communities throughout Texas. I have also helped train and monitor staff supporting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This work strengthened my ability to remain grounded during emotionally intense situations, assess safety concerns, and support individuals experiencing significant distress.

I also have training in psychological and neuropsychological assessment under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. My experience includes administering and scoring measures of intellectual functioning, memory, academic achievement, and executive functioning. I view assessment as a collaborative process that can provide clarity regarding a person’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning while guiding meaningful recommendations for treatment and support.

My therapeutic style is compassionate, structured, and nonjudgmental. Whether someone is coping with depression, processing trauma, or seeking answers through psychological testing, my goal is to help them feel understood while developing a clearer and more manageable path forward.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, so I offer a free 15-minute video consultation where we can briefly connect, discuss what you are looking for, and determine whether working together feels like the right fit.
